Key features of the Milestone card
- No deposit required. Unlike a secured card, you don't need to lock up cash to get a credit line.
- Prequalify with no score impact. Milestone's online prequalification uses a soft pull. Many people also receive Milestone offers by mail with a reservation code.
- Builds credit with all three bureaus. Your payment history and balances are reported monthly.
- Global Mastercard acceptance, plus Mastercard's standard zero-liability protection for unauthorized purchases.
- Online account access for statements, payments and alerts — see our account login page.
- Choice of card design on some offers.
Milestone costs to understand
Milestone is a fee-based card. Depending on your offer, you may see an annual fee (often higher in the first year), a monthly maintenance fee beginning in the second year, a high variable purchase APR, a foreign transaction fee, a fee for authorized user cards, and optional over-limit coverage. Because the first annual fee is usually billed when the account opens, your available credit starts lower than your credit limit.

How to apply for the Milestone Mastercard
- Prequalify online with your basic information, or use the reservation code from a mail offer.
- Review the offer — check the APR, fees and limit in the disclosure box.
- Submit the application. Accepting the offer typically triggers a hard inquiry and a final decision, often within minutes.
- Activate your card when it arrives and set up online access and autopay.

Using Milestone to build credit
Treat the Milestone limit as a credit-reporting tool, not spending money. Pay off the opening annual fee first, then keep your statement balance under 10% of the limit. On a $500 card, that's under $50 when the statement closes.
- Enroll in autopay for at least the minimum due — payment history is the biggest scoring factor.
- Pay the statement balance in full to avoid the high APR.
- Check your reports after two or three statements to confirm the account shows as current.
- After six or more months of on-time payments, ask about a credit limit review.

Starting limits are modest and set by your offer — often a few hundred dollars, with some offers advertising up to about $1,000.
Can I get a Milestone card with bad credit?
Milestone is designed for fair and less-than-perfect credit. Approval isn't guaranteed, but many applicants who've been declined elsewhere prequalify.
